Soulcalibur IV is one of the more detailed games from its time, with a more realistic art style of the characters and settings than most games were taking on at the time, typically opting for a toon styled art, keeping the line between reality and video games very distinct. With some already established and well-known characters from other franchises, however, Soul Calibur IV did not have a whole lot of room for creative freedom in how they can make these characters look, and not wanting them to be out of place, the art style of their game had to stick with the predetermined style.

Each mode offers something slightly different, but the base goal of each mode is the same: win every fight you face. The game is quite similar to Mortal Kombat , but Soulcalibur IV does differ majorly in one area: character creation.
Not only does Soulcalibur offer the ability to play as many characters, including three from the Star Wars franchise, but offers the player the ability to create their own character, choosing fighting styles, weapons, voices, pitch, and physique. This player involvement and immersion of their own character creates a new dimension for the fan base of fighting games to enjoy within Soulcalibur IV.
As stated earlier, Soulcalibur IV is an oldie but a goodie. It has a lot of good things going on, but if we are completely honest with it, it is simply surpassed by fighting games that are currently available. The character creation is something other games should take after this one, but other than that, technology has come a long way, putting this one into the past.
